LEGISLATIVE REPORT

The Nebraska Microenterprise Partnership Act (LB 327) became law on July 1, 1997 (Nebraska Revised Statutes, Sections 81-1295 to 81-12,105). Under this Act, state funds are appropriated yearly to support lending and training to micro businesses in Nebraska.

The Department of Economic Development, in cooperation with the Nebraska Enterprise Fund, prepares a yearly report on the activities associated with LB 327 funding. The current report may be found at:

For every 12 cents invested by the State of Nebraska, 88 cents of non-state funds were leveraged to assist Microloan development organizations with technical assistance/training support and capital to invest in micro businesses. Ninety-two of Nebraska’s 93 counties reported businesses receiving training or loans under this program. NEF collects jobs data from MDOs quarterly. For the year ending June 30, 2009, the average number of jobs per loan was 2.01 and for training/technical assistance the average number of jobs was 1.6 per business.

Rose Jaspersen, Executive Director of NEF said “the Nebraska Enterprise Fund and its grantee programs take state dollars, leverage other funds and provide high impact results at a low cost to tax payers.”
