  Catholic Charities began in 1926 with the Juan Diego Center (JDC) of Catholic Charities (CC) being added in 1990 to serve the South Omaha area with emphasis on the Hispanic community The JDC Micro business Training and Development Project began in 1994. Since that time, JDC and New Community Development Corporation (NCDC) have collaborated to offer micro business services in Douglas and Sarpy County . Together the two agencies have offered over 81 series of entrepreneurial training. The goal of this training is to create opportunities for individuals to improve their self-sufficiency through self-employment and to promote economic growth in South Omaha and surrounding areas through development of small business enterprises.

  The Community Action Partnership for Mid-Nebraska started in 1965 under Congressional authorization of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. The mission is, "to provide community and family support for financial enhancement" for 27 counties in south-central Nebraska. In 1994, Community Action Partnership started a microenterprise business program, Small Enterprise Economic Development (SEED), to provide new and existing businesses technical assistance, training and loans.

  Community Development Resources (CDR) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization located in Lincoln, Nebraska. CDR is engaged in the business of lending money, and providing training and technical assistance to small business owners, microentreprenuers, non-profit housing developers, and human service agencies. CDR's loans can be used to finance land acquistion, housing construction, equipment, real estate purchase and improvements, inventory, working capital, bridge financing, and accounts and grants recievables. CDR collaberates with both the public and private-sector to further its mission.

  Destination Midtown is a community development organization focused on revitalizing the area of Omaha bounded by 24th Street, Saddle Creek Road, Cuming Street and Center Street. The mission of Destination Midtown is to create a premier urban environment where people want to live, work, shop and play. The vision of Destination Midtown is to establish a nationally-known, vibrant and distinct urban environment that promotes economic development activities, advances neighborhood goals and forges unique partnerships. Our work is focused on neighborhood development, economic development, transportation/ corridor improvement, and community promotion.

  The NebraskaEDGE (Enhancing, Developing and Growing Entrepreneurs) Program is the umbrella organization for rural entrepreneurial training programs hosted by local communities, organizations and associations. NebraskaEDGE has existed since 1983. Its community development strategy is designed to enhance the economic base of a community. The EDGE Program works with a community to further develop their small business support networks and provide education and skill development for individuals wanting to start or expand a business idea. Coalition building, leadership development and tapping into the various assets within a community are key to the success of this community.

  In 1996, Central Plains Foundation developed their state wide out reach program, GROW Nebraska. Grassroots Resources and Opportunities for Winners (GROW) Nebraska is a 501(c) 3 non-profit marketing and training program for Nebraska entrepreneurial businesses. GROW Nebraska is headquartered in the Central Plains Development Center in Holbrook, Nebraska. The statewide program focuses on building successful Nebraska businesses one at a time. In 1995, Central Plains Foundation, Inc received a USDA Rural Development Grant to create a business plan and solidify objectives. After significant research into similar state based programs, and hosting a showcase event in November 1996, the GROW Nebraska Program officially began accepting members in 1998 and created the first annual GROW Nebraska Market. The initial membership was 61 and 5 services. In 2003, GROW Nebraska had 171 members and offered 20 business building services. GROW Nebraska has received support from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development to expand its services aimed at helping entrepreneurs boost their profits. In 2003, Central Plains Foundation, Inc realized that GROW Nebraska had outgrown the SW Nebraska based public foundation and decided to have the program become an affiliated fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation. A statewide board to govern the program was also created in 2003. Today GROW represents 175 businesses, which is equivalent to 243 full-time equivalent jobs. Entrepreneur business member's gross sales total over 9 million.

  Hastings Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) was incorporated as a non-profit Nebraska corporation in 1973 for the purpose of advancing, encouraging, promoting and stimulating the general economic, commercial, educational, social, civic and general welfare and prosperity of the City of Hastings, Nebraska, and its surrounding territory, by securing the assistance, cooperation and unity of action of all persons, corporations, and organizations interested in such objects and purposes;

HEDC has worked with all levels of business and industry, from very small entrepreneurs to very large corporations. HEDC offers a training program for entrepreneurs through the Community Redevelopment Authority (CRA) of Hastings, Nebraska, assisting in the training and financing needs of said entrepreneurs. The organization offers entrepreneurial training in conjunction with Central Community College, Hastings College, Hastings Corporation, Hastings Chamber of Commerce and other organizations interested in the further development of entrepreneurs for the community of Hastings and its surrounding territory.

The goal of this training is to create opportunities for individuals to improve their self-sufficiency through self-employment and to promote economic growth in Hastings and the surrounding areas through development of small business enterprises.

  Lincoln Action Program’s (LAP) Entrepreneur Development initiatives offer comprehensive business training that helps people with minimal business experience gain the skills and knowledge they need to plan, start, operate, and expand a viable business. Our curriculum presents a step-by-step process to start a small business, covering the fundamentals of business planning, marketing, and management. Assistance also includes on-going business counseling, one-on-one technical assistance, and access to business financing that helps business owners stay in business.   New Community Development Corporation began as a community-based economic development organization in 1992 by using new housing stock as its economic development tool. In 1994, NCDC successfully requested funding from the City of Omaha to begin its microenterprise services to provide a viable means to address the inequities of economic opportunities in North and South Omaha. Shortly thereafter, NCDC collaborated with Catholic Charities/Juan Diego Center to more efficiently serve the South Omaha residents, especially those who need training in Spanish. NCDC also provides training in English, technical assistance and loans to micro businesses.

  Northeast Economic Development, Inc. (NED, Inc.) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization and certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). NED, Inc.'s mission is to assist in the community and economic stability of northeast Nebraska thus enhancing employment and housing opportunities and public works of the region. NED, Inc. offers loans and technical assistance to small businesses.

  The Rural Enterprise Assistance Project (REAP) was started by the Center for Rural Affairs in 1990 to meet the needs of self-employed persons in the rural Midwest. It provides individuals with business management training, technical assistance, lending capital, loan packaging, and networking opportunities for starting and growing a business. Roundtables and/or associations of micro-entrepreneurs are formed in addition to individualized services in rural areas of Nebraska and are the supporting vehicle for the delivery of these services. The REAP program operates on a statewide rural basis through regionally based Business Specialists.
   
  REAP operates Nebraska's only Small Business Administration funded Women's Business Center (WBC) with the goal to help meet the business assistance needs of today's start-up and existing rural Nebraska women entrepreneurs.

  West Central Nebraska Development District (WCNDD) was originally organized in 1974 as a voluntary association of local governments with the purpose of promoting intergovernmental cooperation and by communication, planning, coordination and technical assistance servicing this 18-county district by dealing with community and economic development needs that affect the district. WCNDD offers both technical assistance and small business loans to prospective and exisiting businesses in the district.
